Most people who land here don't want a speed test, they want to count something: reps, laps, cars past the window, how many times a colleague says "basically" in a meeting. So Tally is the default mode on this page. No timer, no score, just a number that goes up, and a Stop button when you're done.
If you do want a clicking speed number, the 10, 30 and 60 second modes are here too and use the same engine as the CPS test. Keyboard and mouse both count. On a phone, tap the pad.
Keys
- Space, left click or tap: plus one.
- Backspace or the Undo button: minus one. Only in Tally mode; a timed run can't be edited.
- R: reset after a run.
What the result shows in Tally mode
The count, the time it took, and the rate per second. If your presses were evenly spaced, you also get a tempo in beats per minute: press along to a song and the number is the song's BPM, give or take a beat. The last 40 runs are listed under the counter, so a count you did an hour ago is still there.
The count survives a page reload only as a finished run. If you need to pause, press Stop, and start a fresh count later; the two numbers will both be in the list.
Two people, two thumbs
Need to count two things at once, or race a friend on one screen? The tap counter has two pads side by side and reports left and right separately.
